Greetings XC Parents,
First, I would like to thank everyone for the kind messages of support last week. I’m happy to be back in Eugene preparing for another great year of cross country!
Below is a lot of information about upcoming Sheldon XC happenings and deadlines. Please read carefully, share with your athlete and let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to share this with any athletes who may be interested in joining cross country next year as well.
Dead Week
Next week is the OSAA mandatory dead week. This means that coaches can have no contact with athletes. I will be asking some of the upperclassmen to help maintain the M/W/F run routine so that we don’t lose the fitness we have gained this summer.
If you have not been running 30-45 min a day, 5 days a week, you better get started. Our first race is a little over a month away!
Fall Sport Registration
http://sheldonathletics.com/calendar/details/fall-sports-registration1/
Date: Thursday, August 6
Time: 8:30am -2:00pm
Location: Sheldon Cafeteria
What to bring: Medical Insurance card, copy of physical (if needed?), & money to pay fees
Please click the “forms/fees” tab to download registration paperwork.
Note: Every athlete needs to have a current physical on file with the school every 2 years.
Out of town on registration day? You can turn in your paperwork to the athletic office the following Monday – Thursday anytime between 9am-12pm and 1-3pm.
XC Camp
We have a limited number of spaces available to athletes wishing to join us for Sheldon XC camp, August 13-16 on the Oregon Coast. All athletes that attend camp must be able to run at least 6 miles without stopping and 10 miles total in one day. In addition, because space is limited, priority will be given to those athletes who were regular attendees at summer runs.
The coaching staff is in need of at least 1 large vehicle (possibly 2) for transporting athletes, gear and food to camp. If anyone is interested in loaning us a van or large SUV in exchange for a waived camp fee, please let me know ASAP.
Mandatory Practices Begin August 17th
The schedule for daily doubles is as follows:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 8:00am @ Alton Baker Park and 4:00pm @ the Sheldon Track
Tuesday, Thursday: 4:00 @ Alton Baker
Saturday: 8:00am at Hendricks Park
If for any reason your athlete can not attend please inform me ASAP. Participation in all mandatory practices is required. Missing any practice could result in not being allowed to participate in the first meet.
Reminder our First Meet is the Marist Invite on September 4th
Twilight River Run
The Twilight 5k is our team’s big annual fundraiser. The success of this run is extremely important to success of our programs. The school district provides the athletic programs with exactly zero dollars to operate our programs; that means that having supportive parents and athletes like you is the only way we can keep our program going! Last year our run was very successful; we had more than 200 people sign up and many more donations. It is my hope that by getting the word and fliers out earlier that we can get 250 people to sign up! Every year we ask that each athlete gets total of 5 people to either sign up for our run or make a donation. So parents, please help us coaches out and encourage your athlete to do his or her part. More info about our run is on the flyer and entry links below or on the event info page at sheldontfxc.com .
Parent Meeting
Every athletic program at Sheldon is required to have a parent meeting every year. We do not have an exact day and time yet, but it will be in the evening during the first week of mandatory practices. This is a very important meeting for all parents but especially those parents that are new to the program. More details to come!
